Creating Your Mailing Lists: Options for Your Direct Mail Campaign

Creating your mailing list

After you have compiled your ideal demographics for your target market, you need to develop your mailing list. You should probably use house lists and broker lists to help you maximize your results. If you want to increase customer loyalty, or if you have a promotion or sale you want to spread the word about, you may want to use a house list. This refers to a customer list that you already have in-house.

If you want to reach new customers, you may want to use a broker list. You can buy or rent these lists from various sources, and these lists are often segmented by interest. For example, you might be looking for a list of customers who love to travel, or you might be looking for people who are avid video game players.

As you consider broker lists, you have multiple options. Response lists are more expensive, but they contain contact information for people who have responded to marketing efforts in the past. They might provide you with a better conversion rate.

A less expensive option is a compiled list. This is a list of people segmented by specific demographics created from public records. They have not necessarily responded to marketing efforts in the past.
